Harris Kocher Smith (HKS) provided all civil engineering services for this 89-dwelling unit project located in the City and County of Denver. The Park Avenue 5B project is the eighth phase of the Denver Housing Authority’s Park Avenue Redevelopment. Key civil engineering elements of the project included an innovative stormwater management design resulting in the use of permeable sidewalks, permeable parking, porous landscape detention and extended detention basin water quality systems. HKS’ design also included an economical underground detention system and the use of alternative stormwater conveyance systems to minimize pedestrian and esthetic impacts to the project. Additionally, HKS took the lead with the Site Plan entitlement process with the City and County of Denver and assisted in obtaining entitlements and permits within the Denver Housing Authority’s schedule.
The Project was mentioned by the US Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Shaun Donovan, as “ a nationwide example of sustainable and affordable housing” and as “unique compared to nationwide public housing because it uses a variety of green technologies”.
