As a major design subconsultant to HDR, HKS is providing the following services to the EAGLE P3 design/build project:
EAGLE P3 Utility Design Management
HKS is responsible for the management and coordination of the design and production of construction documents of over $70,000,000 of utility infrastructure relocations impacted by the EAGLE P3 Project. The project includes the East Corridor (Union Station to DIA – 23 miles), Northwest Corridor Electrified Segment (Union Station to 72nd Avenue and Lowell – 5.3 miles), Gold Line Corridor (Union Station to 50th Avenue and Ward Road – 11 miles), and the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility (CRMF). This work includes the management and coordination of utility infrastructure relocation design activities for the project. The work includes the management of subconsultant firms for the design of wet and dry utilities, coordination with other design disciplines and contractor to ensure design compatibility and constructability, coordination with utility owners and management of the QA/QC process for utility design.
East Corridor Wet Utility Design
HKS is responsible for the design and preparation of construction documents of over 70 sanitary sewer and water main crossings and relocations throughout the East Corridor (Union Station to DIA). This work involves extensive coordination with RTD, City and County of Denver, Denver Water, DIA, City of Aurora, and several water and sanitation districts, as well as with the other design disciplines and construction personnel. The design schedule for this work is highly accelerated due to the necessity of the utilities needing to be relocated prior to other construction activities commencing.
Denver Water Conduit No. 74 Realignment Design
HKS is responsible for the management, coordination, design and preparation of construction documents for the relocation of approximately 4880 linear feet water main. The first segment consists of approximately 2400 linear feet of 36” and 48” water main north across the CRT and UPRR tracks from Smith Road to 37th Avenue at Peoria Street. This work also includes three directional bores and the design of a pressure reducing vault. The second segment consists of approximately 2200 linear feet of 36” water main relocated from the UPRR ROW into Smith Road from Syracuse Street to Wabash Street and approximately 280 linear feet of 12” water main in Ulster Street. Both segments require the preparation of abandonment plans for the existing main, as well as extensive coordination with Denver Water, RTD, UPRR and City and County of Denver.
Erosion Control Design for Utility Relocations
HKS is responsible for the preparation of Storm Water Management Plans (SWMP) and associated narrative reports for over 100 sanitary sewer and water line relocations within the East and Northwest Corridors of the EAGLE P3 Project. This work involves preparing an umbrella SWMP meeting the requirements of each affected jurisdiction, as well as the preparation of site specific erosion control and other SWMP documentation for each utility relocation location. The design process also includes extensive coordination with the contractor to ensure constructability.
East Corridor Stations Waterline Easements
HKS is responsible for the preparation of legal descriptions and exhibits for securing new waterline easements for five proposed stations along the East Corridor. The work involves the preparation of permanent easement documents meeting Denver Water Department requirements to bring water infrastructure from existing off-site facilities to the proposed CRT station.
Design Services During Construction
HKS is providing miscellaneous design services during construction of the EAGLE P3 Project that includes review of shop drawings for utility infrastructure, preparation of as-built drawings for utility relocations and new infrastructure, resolution and design of unidentified utility conflicts discovered during construction, and miscellaneous design of utility infrastructure required during the construction phase of the project.
