Harris Kocher Smith is working with OZ Architecture, Klipp Architecture and AR7 to provide civil engineering services for renovations to the Denver Justice Center, including:
- the Detention Center
- Courthouse
- Post Office
- Parking Garage
Among the renovations is a need to provide storm sewer and water quality facilities for the runoff from the site. Many options have been looked at for the site including above grade, at-grade and below grade water quality detention. The site historically drains to the northwest and the storm sewer outfall to be used for the property is located in 14th Street south of the site.
Water Quality will take place in a number of different ways for this site including:
- On a “green roof” for one of the Denver Justice Center buildings, meaning water quality will take place on the roof of the building and discharge directly to the 14th Street storm sewer.
- The other buildings will discharge to a water quality sand filter vault and then discharge to the storm sewer in 14th Street.
- All landscaped areas and areas within the plinth wall around the Courthouse will provide water quality by means of surface treatment.
- Portions of the site that cannot be drained to water quality facilities will release to the north.
