As part of the “Building A Better Denver” Bond Program, Harris Kocher Smith (HKS) served as prime consultant for the City and County of Denver in the design and preparation of construction documents and construction oversight for the Colfax Enhanced Transit Corridor Improvement Project. The 1.75 mile corridor extends along East Colfax Avenue (U.S. 40) from Grant Street to St. Paul Street though The Colfax On The Hill and Greektown Improvement Districts.

The objective of the project was to improve pedestrian safety and mobility in this very busy multi-modal corridor. Extensive coordination was undertaken with each of the districts, as well as the adjacent commercial area, residential neighborhoods, and other affected stakeholders to ensure that their concerns and needs were being met. The project included design surveys and base mapping, analysis and design of pedestrian lighting, evaluation and design of deteriorated and hazardous sidewalks throughout the corridor, analysis and design of curb returns and pedestrian ramps to current ADA standards, and streetscape improvements.
