Harris Kocher Smith is providing the major drainage design for the improvements to 30th Street in Boulder including new trail connections for the multi-use path along Goose Creek. A new bridge and multi-use path is also planned at the Boulder Slough. The design includes low flow crossings for the path and 100-year water surface elevation determination. Analysis of numerous options and different structure types, both for the 30th Street Bridge and the low flow crossings, were part of the process in which the consultants and city evaluated each of the alternatives to decide on the alternative with the most benefits and least impacts.
The low flow structures pass irrigation discharges as well as the runoff from an approximate 5-year storm event. A floodplain permit for the City of Boulder was also filled out since portions of this project are within three different 100-year floodplains in the area. The lead engineering firm for this project is TSH Engineering. They are responsible for the local drainage, roadway design and bridge design.
